SPANISH FORK — A man was arrested Wednesday after attempting to entice what he thought was a 13-year-old girl to a park, police said.
Ryan Chad Sherry, a 31-year-old resident of Spanish Fork, was arrested by detectives with the Utah County Special Victims Unit after an investigation that lasted about seven months, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.
“During that time, Sherry sought out a 13-year-old girl and described what he wanted to do with her,” a statement from the sheriff’s office reads.
Investigators said it was apparent during the investigation that Sherry believed he was communicating with a 13-year-old girl. They described him as being “clear in his intentions” and said he initiated the communication, which was “sexual in nature.”
Detectives met Sherry at a park in Provo, where he believed he would meet the girl, according to investigators. He was arrested on suspicion of second-degree felony charges, including attempted aggravated rape of a child, attempted sodomy on a child, attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child and enticing a minor over the Internet.
Sherry was booked into the Utah County Jail with a cash-only bail set at $50,000. The investigation is still ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
