OGDEN — Three people escaped home early Saturday morning after the attic went up in flames. A second fire in another part of the city damaged a garage and storage shed, and destroyed a van.

Shortly before 4 a.m., emergency responders were alerted to a house fire near Grant Ave and 28th St. According to a statement from Ogden Deputy Fire Chief Eric Bauman, arriving firefighters helped two adults and a child out of the house before beginning their attack on the fire itself.

New construction at the home made it difficult for firefighters to extinguish the blaze, Bauman said, but crews eventually got it out.

Fire investigators were working Saturday afternoon to determine a cause, Bauman said. No one was injured in the fire.

Later in the morning, at about 10:00, firefighters were called to a structure fire at 1100 Orchard Ave. Upon arrival, they found a garage, a shed and a van on fire, Bauman said.

The firefighters worked quickly to put the fire out before it spread. Ultimately, Bauman said it left estimated $25,000 in damage, including severe damage to the garage and shed and a total loss of the van.

No one was hurt in the fire, and an investigation was underway Saturday to find out how it started.
