The Dixie Flyers scored three goals to defeat Region 9 rival Cedar and claim the 2014 3A boys state soccer championship.

Midfielder Tyler Bennett scored the first goal of the game giving Dixie an early lead.

Senior captain Cesar Perez would give Dixie a 2-0 lead which turned out to be all the scoring they would need.

They added one more goal in the second half when Luis Rabago found the back of the net on an assist from McLane Keenan, his second assist of the match.

Cedar was able to avoid the shutout in the 62nd minute when Brad Sillitoe found the back of the net for the Redmen.

It was Dixie’s second boys state soccer title and first since 2012.

The Flyers finish the season as state champs with a 15-3-2 record despite finishing second in Region 9 during the regular season. They defeated region champions Payson and Juan Diego to reach the championship match.
