SALT LAKE CITY — A Boston company recently released a job listing for a position at "Rehtom Inc." The position was described as "director of operations" with applicants being asked to work full-time and to be on call 24/7.

Twenty-four people applied for the position and were interviewed via Skype. The interviews were recorded and complied into a video. The interviewer tells the prospective employees that the job is "not just a job — it's sort of, probably the most important job."

The responsibilities and requirements for the job included:

  • Have to be on your feet all of the time — great mobility.
  • Working 135 hours plus a week and to work 24/7.
  • No breaks available.
  • Have a degree in medicine, finance and the culinary arts.
  • Can only eat lunch when the associate is done eating their lunch.
  • May have to stay up with an associate during the night.
  • Give up your life — no vacations.
  • Workload will increase during Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.
  • Oh, also. . . the position is not paid.

The applicants' responses range from shock and anger upon discovering the "cruelty" of the position, with one woman asking, "Is that even legal?"

Well, it turns out that millions of people around the world already have this job — mothers. (Rehtom is mother spelled backwards.)

With Mother's Day coming up (on Sunday, May 11 by the way), now is the perfect opportunity to thank your mother or the other women who played that role in your life. Show gratitude for those women who have put in the endless hours, without taking any breaks, and who have sacrificed so many things to make your life what it is today.
