THE JAM SESSION — We all know this article has to start out by saying, “Curiosity killed the cat” (thus the need for nine lives).

Zero percent of cats are killed in this video, literally or figuratively, but it may be taken as substantial evidence that the above-mentioned cliche is certainly rooted in truth.

Many, if not all, animals choose fight or flight when startled, but the curiosity of the cat featured here overrides any instinct toward self-preservation.

In the video, a group of people are gathered to play, sing, and listen to music. One member of the group is sitting on cajon, a wooden box drum that originates from Peru, which includes a perfectly cat-sized hole.

And it’s that round opening that is the most interesting thing in the world to this cat. Despite being startled again and again and again, it seems clear that this cat wants nothing more than to get in the box to see if it’s a good place for a cat nap.

It’s weirdly fascinating to watch the cat act like it’s getting an electric shock with every forceful bang on the drum. It is clearly confused as to why this perfect hidey-hole is assaulting its years. And the more you watch it, the funnier it gets. (I recommend watching it at least three times.)
