CLEARFIELD — Police are searching for four people who they say stole a rifle and a handgun from a pawnshop Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of a gun theft at Instant Cash Loan & Pawn, located 437 N. Main St., shortly after 3 p.m., according to Clearfield Assistant Chief Kelly Bennett.

Bennett said two men, a teen and another male, whose age was unknown, entered the store. Three of them looked at displayed firearms while the other pawned a chainsaw. An employee at the store was assisting the person pawning the chainsaw, when another person in the group reached around a counter and took a .40-caliber handgun, according to Bennett.

Bennett said another member in the group then took a .22-caliber rifle and concealed it in his clothing. The group then ran from the business and left in a white Volkswagen Passat. Police said the vehicle was located Wednesday night, but officers were still looking for the four individuals involved.

The males are in possession of a Bushmaster M4, a .22-caliber rifle and a Springfield XDM .40-caliber handgun, Bennett said.

Police have identified three of the four believed to be involved, Bennett said. He said they are looking for Alex Chavez, 19, and Gabriel Rivas, 18, of Clearfield. Police did not release the name of the third person they have identified because he is a minor.

Bennett said Chavez is 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair that is possibly shoulder length. Rivas was described as 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Police didn’t release any information about the juvenile.

The fourth male was described as having dark hair and facial hair and, at the time of the theft, was wearing sunglasses, a dark jacket and a gray shirt with “Army” on the front.

They said the four are believed to be armed and dangerous and people should not approach them. Anyone who sees any of them or has any information about their whereabouts is encouraged to call Clearfield police at 801-525-2806 or 911.
