OREM — Police on Wednesday identified a man who died after being shot by a homeowner who encountered the man in a garage of his home on Monday morning.
Marcos Rosales, 49, died after the homeowner shot him multiple times about 7 a.m. Monday near the intersection of 400 North and 800 West, Orem police officials said on Twitter.
The homeowner heard a noise in the garage and confronted Rosales when he went out to investigate, police said on Monday. At that point, he grabbed a gun and shot Rosales multiple times.
It’s unclear why Rosales was in the garage. The homeowner has not been identified.
Rosales was taken to a hospital in critical condition but later died. Police said he was also from the same neighborhood.
Orem police were investigating the shooting and planned to turn over its findings to the Utah County District Attorney’s office, which will decide whether or not charges will be filed.
