Locals in the NFL Week 5: Some locals making a splash

Week 5 of the NFL season has come and gone and there was some standout performers and a couple of firsts to be noted this week.

Taysom Hill (BYU)

Hill continues to be a Swiss Army Knife for the New Orleans Saints in a big win over the Washington Redskins, and it paid off for him Monday. Hill scored his first NFL touchdown on a short rush. He ended the game with five rushes for 23 yards and a touchdown. He also had two kickoff returns that went for a total of 43 yards.

Taron Johnson (Weber State)

Johnson is continuing a great start to his rookie campaign with the Buffalo Bills. This week he was able to get his first career interception and also had four tackles in the Bills’ last-second win over Tennessee.

Nick Vigil (Utah State)

Vigil is still a tackling machine for the Cincinnati Bengals. This week he racked up another nine tackles and swatted away a pass in a win over the Miami Dolphins.

Eric Weddle (Utah)

Weddle was all over the field for the Baltimore Ravens with a total of eight tackles. He was also able to get in the backfield for a sack in an overtime loss to the Browns.

Alex Smith (Utah)

Smith and the Redskins struggled in a blowout loss to the Saints on Monday night. He completed 59 percent of his passes for a total of 275 yards and an interception. He was able to use his legs to get into the end zone once, but it wasn’t enough for Smith this time to get the win.

Some other notable performers:

BYU

Kyle Van Noy (New England Patriots) - Van Noy was able to bring down eight people in a big win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Fred Warner (San Francisco 49ers) - Warner’s average tackles cooled down quite a bit this week, but he was still able to get three tackles in a loss to Arizona Cardinals.

Michael Davis (Los Angeles Chargers) - Davis had one tackle in a win over the Oakland Raiders.

Jamaal Williams (Green Bay Packers) - Williams had six rushes for 33 yards, averaging 5.5 yards per rush. He also had two receptions for 19 yards. One reception was for a 2-point conversion in a loss to the Detroit Lions.

Ezekiel Ansah (Detroit Lions) - Ansah missed another game with an injury.

Southern Utah

LeShaun Sims (Tennessee Titans) - Sims had one tackle in a last-second loss to the Bills.

Utah

Devontae Booker (Denver Broncos) - Booker caught the ball five times for a total of 59 yards. He averaged 11.8 yards per catch with his longest catch and run going for 22 yards in a loss to the New York Jets.

Star Lotulelei (Buffalo Bills)- Lotulelei had one tackle in a win versus the Titans.

Tim Patrick (Denver Broncos) - Patrick had one catch that went for 6 yards in a loss to the Jets.

Marcus Williams (New Orleans Saints)- Williams had one tackle in a blowout win over the Redskins.

Jared Norris (Carolina Panthers) - Norris missed the game this week due to an injury.

Utah State

Bobby Wagner (Seattle Seahawks) - Wagner totaled eight tackles in a loss to the Rams.

Maurice Alexander (Seattle Seahawks)- Alexander had three tackles in a loss to the Rams

Kyler Fackrell (Green Bay Packers) - Fackrell had one tackle in a loss to Lions

Nevin Lawson (Detroit Lions) - Lawson had one tackle and one pass defended in a win over the Packers
