BEAVER DAM, Box Elder County — A Logan man died after the vehicle he was driving rolled on state Route 30 Wednesday morning, authorities said.

William K. Atkinson, 48, died in the crash, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Nick Street.

Troopers received a report of a single-car crash on the highway near the Box Elder and Cache county line after a semitruck driver traveling on the highway spotted the vehicle and reported the crash at 8:15 a.m., Street said.

However, troopers believe the crash happened between 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. and the wreckage was difficult to see from the roadway.

Street said investigators believe Atkinson was traveling west on the highway in a 2002 white Chevrolet when he apparently drifted right off the road and veered back to the left, causing the vehicle to cross both the west and eastbound lanes.

The vehicle then went off the road again, down a small slope and rolled. The vehicle landed on its wheels in a field "quite some distance from the roadway," Street said.

Troopers said Atkinson was not wearing a seat belt, and he was ejected and killed on impact.

The crash remains under investigation, but troopers said fatigue may have been a factor.
