SALT LAKE CITY — After being hospitalized for a little more than a week with severe symptoms that developed after his COVID-19 positive test result, Congressman Ben McAdams has been discharged.
"I was released from the hospital today feeling relatively better after getting treatment for the past week for COVID-19," McAdams said in a statement. "I’m grateful for the excellent care I received from hospital staff. I look forward to continuing my recovery at home as I remain quarantined, including from my family, and gradually getting back to my normal routine as my health improves."
He also took a moment to "urge everyone to take the threats of #coronavirus seriously," in a tweet announcing his release from the hospital.
"Please take the advice of the CDC seriously. Follow all of the guidelines," he said in a video attached to the tweet.
McAdams tested positive for the virus on March 18, three days after he said he started showing symptoms. He said in an earlier statement that he isolated himself at home after returning from Washington, D.C. with mild, cold-like symptoms. He said the following day his condition worsened.
“My symptoms got worse and I developed a fever, a dry cough and labored breathing and I remained self-quarantined. On Tuesday, my doctor instructed me to get tested for COVID-19 and following his referral, I went to the local testing clinic for the test. Today I learned that I tested positive,” McAdams said on March 18.
Two days after he tested positive he was admitted to the hospital for shortness of breath and started receiving oxygen.
His wife, Julie, said she and their four children have stayed healthy throughout his healing process.
