THE FIELD — If you’re a member of a marching band, every performance has a fairly high risk of accident and even injury.

One misstep out of the tight formation and you could go crashing into someone carrying a massive, 30-pound tuba that takes you out. Or perhaps you trip and fall and start a chain reaction that has half your crew falling like dominoes on the field.

Other than the specific risks of a marching band, being a band member seems like a pretty low-risk activity, right?

Wrong.

Well at least wrong if you play trombone and you take on some crazy choreography specific to that section.

In this video, you’ll see a rather large trombone section at a high school take on what is called a “suicide routine.” Once you see the video, you’ll understand the name, but in a nutshell, the choreography is all about swinging your trombone with tight movements into a space where someone’s head was just a moment ago.

In other similar videos on the internet, the kids seem to hesitate and their routines feel a little slow. But the kids in this featured video really go for it and even speed up the routine at the end of the performance.

Who knew that playing trombone could come with the fear of being concussed?
