KENTWOOD, Mich. — Three customers ordered food at a Taco Bell drive-thru in Michigan, but found they had been given wads of cash instead of burritos.
Kennidi Rue and her friends Luke Postma and Grant Kruse had driven a few miles away from the restaurant before they realized they hadn't been given food, according to Detroit Free Press. They counted up the cash and discovered that their food bag contained around $3,600.
The individuals said they were momentarily tempted to keep the money, but decided to do the "right thing" and return it to the Taco Bell.
"It obviously wasn't ours," Kruse told WZZM 13. "It's not like we were losing anything by giving it back. So we thought we would bring it back and just do it the right way, I guess."
The customers said that when they returned the money to the Taco Bell cashier she was emotional and very relieved.
"We were saying, 'We will never feel guilty about bringing it back,' " Rue said. "Now that we brought it back we will never have to feel guilty about it."
The customers were able to get the food they had originally ordered after they returned the money. They said that was all they really wanted in the first place.
