PROVO -- Freshmen Utah guard Marshall Henderson scored 16 points, grabbed four rebounds and was thrown out of Saturday night's 82-69 loss to BYU for hitting the Cougars' Jackson Emery.

With just over 30 seconds left in the game Henderson hustled after a loose ball heading out of bounds and in one motion jumped, grabbed the ball and fired it at BYU's Jonathan Tavernari in hopes of it going off the Cougar and maintaining possession.

While jumping out of bounds, Henderson was fouled by Emery and the two had words. Henderson then flailed his left arm toward Emery sending him hard to the ground.

After the game Utah's Coach, Jim Boylen addressed the skirmish by saying, "Guys were playing hard. It was a mistake by my guy. Things happen."

Emery had no hard feelings after the game, "It was in the heat of the moment, I know that Marshall is a great competitor. It just happened."

Coaches and players quickly ran to the scene to prevent any further altercations and calm emotions making it easy for the officials to determine what needed to be done to resolve the issue.

After minutes of monitor gazing and chants of "Kick him out" from the BYU student section the officials upheld the foul on Emery and issued Henderson a flagrant foul and sent him to the showers early.

"This is not a normal game, it is a rivalry game and emotions run high," said BYU Head Coach Dave Rose. "Everybody is under a lot of pressure to play the best they can every play."

With video evidence, the Mountain West Conference will most likely look into Henderson's behavior and see what actions it will take.

Henderson and the rest of the Runnin' Utes are likely looking forward to their rematch with BYU, March 3rd in Salt Lake City at the Huntsman Center.
