This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

It probably goes without saying how important water is to us. With the increasing global population, water is quickly becoming the new oil. In our interview with Richard Allred, CEO of Alpine Technical Services in Midvale, he said dirty water is the No. 1 killer in the world.

As a second-generation business owner over a company dubbed one of the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Companies in the U.S., producing clean water is an inherited and now personal mission for Richard and his team of 14 employees. At Alpine Technical Services, they're chemists who can produce clean water, from the equipment, chemicals and know how to perfect the purification process. They target industrial water uses but can assist anyone in need of help with cleaning their water.

In the U.S. we tend to think if a little bit is good, a lot is better. In the case of disinfecting industrial and municipal water with chlorine, that couldn't be further from the truth. One thing Alpine Technical Services teaches is how to chlorinate water effectively. They not only sell the chemicals and equipment to purify water but also teach classes to operators on how to effectively manage their water. In addition, they provide custom safety showers and eyewash solutions to insure those dealing with chemicals will be safe. They consider themselves water, chemical and safety specialists.

Richard's father, Bob Allred, founded the company 35 years ago. He was a chemist who saw a need for a company specializing in water purification and treatment, and he gained a dedicated customer base. Two years ago Bob decided to retire and turned the reins of the business over to Richard. He knew the great reputation his father had already established with Alpine Technical Services. With a background in international business, his motivation is scaling the business.

Today Alpine Technical Services is focused on custom safety and water treatment products. They want to help people optimize what they're already doing and provide the products to do it. Richard says they bring on team members who can support the company's strategic growth.

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
