This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Utah is truly an outdoor state. Approximately 70 percent of Utah lands are public lands that provide a wealth of recreation opportunities to fit every taste from skiing to hiking, biking or camping or even trail running. It was with that inspiration that Andy Stroman decided to open his own sporting company while still attending Utah State University. His business is known as Camp Saver and is going strong 11 years later.

The focus here is on trails. Andy says with the outdoor market it isn't about offering all sporting equipment; instead you just need to find the right niche in the industry. That's why Camp Saver wants to capitalize on tent camping, hiking and backpacking. And it's working, with a team of 45 employees and their brand new 30,000 square foot building on Highway 89 just outside Logan.

They carry over 500 brands that include Patagonia, Solomon, Marmot and Big Agness, just to name a few. With a strong online presence at campsaver.com, Andy says the business has been operating internationally since their inception. They've been discovered in international markets like Korea and have a strong following. In fact, around 30 percent of their revenue stream is coming from international sales.

Camp Saver provides high-quality equipment and very technical items. People need these things to do the activities they love. For example, to go ice climbing, you need things that were designed, manufactured and engineered to perform at the highest level. Both science and technology go into the creation of these items.

At Camp Saver, Andy says the buying experience is critical, so the goal is for customers to have a great experience with excellent customer service, clearly explained return policies and no-hassle guarantees. He's also looking into the possibility of manufacturing.

If you'd like to find out more about how to build your company's global presence, you can attend the thirteenth annual Zions Bank Trade and Business Conference on May 21. For more information or to register, visit www.zionsbank.com/conference.
