Utah's economy is rocking. And here are a few reasons why. Pollina Corporate Real Estate has ranked Utah as the No. 1 Pro-Business State for 2012. Forbes magazine has also named Utah as the Best State for Business and Careers ,,, for the third year in a row. Utah continues to rank No. 1 in the nation for economic dynamism.

Of course this business climate wouldn't be possible without the support and innovation of business owners and leaders statewide. Today, we would like to honor 12 companies in Utah and Idaho we featured during 2012 on "Speaking on Business." These are businesses that have demonstrated excellence in business development, innovation and community involvement.

• Les Olson Company is heading into their fourth generation of family ownership. This document solutions company has grown to seven branches from Logan to Las Vegas and almost 200 employees. • EK Ekcessories in Logan leads the way in outdoor accessories for all types of electronic devices. Their 7,000 products stretch across seven different industries and are distributed in 40 countries. • SME Steel just celebrated their 20th anniversary, with over 1,000 employees and about $250 million in annual revenue. This West Jordan company has completed projects like the San Francisco 49ers stadium in California and City Creek Center in Salt Lake City. • Eric Dowdle says his mission is to bring families together one puzzle at a time. Dowdle Folk Art paintings, puzzles and calendars are so popular, the company sells millions every year in Costco, Wal-Mart and Sam's Club across the U.S. and Canada. • Profire Energy in Lindon was named as one of the 500 fastest growing companies in the world. This 11-year-old technology company has 45 employees who create combustion management products for the oil and gas sectors. • Simplefill, in Sun Valley, Idaho, is a prescription assistance program where patients pay a minimum monthly membership fee that covers up to 7 prescriptions a month.
