KSL Newsradio's live broadcast of "BYU Basketball with Head Coach Dave Rose" aired Tuesday night from Legends Grille, and had assistant coach and former BYU point guard Terry Nashif filling in for Rose, who was on the road doing some recruiting.

BYU guard Anson Winder was the player guest; to hear the show in its entirety check out "Cougar Cuts" (left). For highlights of the talking points, read below.

Last week the Cougars had two instate foes scheduled to visit Provo but only one made the trip as the Utah State game set for last Wednesday was postponed after Aggie Danny Berger's collapse and hospitalization.

"We're really glad that Danny is okay," Nashif said. "When you don't play the game, it's obviously disappointing. Our guys were ready to play. We were coming off a defeat at Iowa State that we needed to put behind us come out and get better."

BYU played the University of Utah down to the wire in what a Nashif called a "must-win" on Saturday and came away with a 58-61 victory. Nashif acknowledged Utah's strengths and said the Utes forced BYU into playing a slow-paced game that the Cougars would rather avoid.

"Utah didn't go away and we knew they wouldn't. It was a different game then we like to play--we don't like to play in the 60s; we like to play in the 80s."

Point guard Matt Carlino played his best game of the season on Saturday, recovering from a slow shooting start. Nashif said Carlino had been playing terrific basketball but just couldn't find his shot. Against Utah Carlino's 19 points were enough to keep BYU within striking distance all night.

"Matt is an outstanding player," Nashif said. "I know he'd been wanting to shoot the ball better and he's a way better shoot than he has (been shooting). It was just huge shots and huge parts of the game and I'm so happy for Matt."

Anson Winder began the season dealing with a badyl sprained ankle and has only recently felt close to 100% on the floor. Against Utah, Winder came off the bench and immediately had a key basket during the Cougars' comeback win.
