SALT LAKE CITY — Police are searching for a man who robbed the concession stand of a movie theater in Sugar House.

Lt. James Tracy of the Salt Lake City Police Department said around 11 p.m. a middle-aged man walked up to the concession stand of the Movies 10, located at 2227 S. Highland Dr., and asked for a half bag of popcorn.

As soon as the clerk was finished putting the popcorn in the bag, the man showed the clerk a dark colored handgun.

"When (the clerk) turned around, started to ring up the purchase, the male told him to put all the money in the bag," Lt. Tracy said.

The clerk complied. The robber then walked out of the building, got into a tan vehicle and drove away.

The robbery happened just as the late night showings at the theater were getting out.

"We don't know if he was an actual patron of the theater or if he just came in to get the money," Tracy said.

Police are reviewing surveillance video from the theater, trying to get a description of the robber. They will also ask surrounding businesses for video in order to get a better description of the robber's vehicle.
