SALT LAKE CITY — For the first time in over 15 years, Jazz fans witnessed a Stockton jersey return to the court for the Utah Jazz. With John Stockton’s jersey retired up in the rafters, it seemed unlikely a Stockton jersey would ever reappear, but that all changed when David Stockton came to town.

David Stockton, son of the Hall of Famer and Jazz legend, got his first minutes with the Jazz in a blowout win against the Golden State Warriors.

Three minutes is all Stockton got in his first game, but those three minutes were memorable for the Stockton family and Jazz fans. It’s not very often you see a father and son play for the same team.

Stockton scored his first points with the Jazz by sinking two free throws. This moment touched Jazz fans everywhere and brought back memories of the good old days.

Joining the Jazz is more than just reaching the NBA for Stockton, it’s returning home and back to his roots.

Stockton spent his first 12 years in the Beehive State watching his dad rise to stardom. He has been a part of this organization years before signing with the franchise. David Stockton grew up in this arena, previously known as the Delta Center, playing ball with his siblings while they waited for their dad.

“It’s home,” David said. “I lived here most of my life and flying in here and just being a part of the program that’s meant so much to me throughout the years is really a dream come true.”

Jazz fans will be seeing more from David Stockton, as he signed a second 10-day contract. Stockton signed his first 10-day contract on March 10. There are no guarantees he will stay, but for now, it’s nice to see another Stockton out there helping the Jazz along the way in their playoff run. The Jazz can only give Stockton two 10-day contracts, so in 10 days the Jazz will have to either cut him or sign him to a full contract.

Prior to his time with the Jazz, Stockton played for the Sacramento Kings G league team the Reno Bighorns, where he averaged 16.3 points and 5.2 assists per game.

The next opportunity to see another Stockton suit up in a Jazz uniform will be Wednesday, March 28, at Vivint Arena as the Jazz take on the Boston Celtics. The game will air on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. MDT.
