OVERSEAS — Jimmer Fredette just won another championship.
At least, according to a league vote.
Fredette’s club Panathinaikos B.C. was named Greek League (HEBA) champion Thursday, when the season and award the league title by a general assembly vote.
The assembly voted 13-1 in favor of naming Panathinaikos as champion, according to Greece outlet Ekathimerini.
In a corresponding move, the assembly also voted that there will be no relegations from Greece’s top division of professional basketball due to the league’s suspension during the coronavirus pandemic.
Panathinaikos recently lost coach its head coach when former Louisville coach Rick Pitino accepted the job at Iona College.
Fredette averaged 12.9 points and 3.1 assists per game in Greek League play, and another 12.9 points and 2.1 rebounds in the Euroleague, when his appearances included two meetings with former BYU teammate Brandon Davis and FC Barcelona Basquet.
The former BYU star shooter averaged 16 points, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals in both games, but Davies’ side took the win each time, with the Provo High alum averaging 9.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists, according to the Deseret News.
The Spanish league was suspended March 13 due to the pandemic, but clubs were allowed to return to individual training last Wednesday, May 13, with small-group work and social distancing standards in place, according to FC Barcelona.
