OGDEN — Parowan used a strong third quarter scoring performance to eventually claim a 56-47 quarterfinal win over visiting Draper American Preparatory Academy in the boys 2A state tournament Thursday.

The region 18 No. 1 Rams came out cold to start the game and allowed Draper APA to dictate the tempo of the game. As a result, Parowan only managed 19 points in the first half and trailed Draper APA by 6 points at the break as the Eagles looked for an upset.

But Parowan’s Porter Wood went to work in the second half and scored 20 of his 33 points in the second half to eventually get the Rams back in the game. Behind his leadership and scoring, Parowan went on a 10-0 run to close out the third quarter to take a 4-point lead into the final quarter.

The Rams continued to take it to the Eagles in the fourth quarter and built up its lead to 10 points on 46.9 percent shooting in the second half. The Eagles only managed to shoot 26.1 percent from the field in the second half.

Draper APA used a full-court press in the final stretch in hopes of cutting into Parowan’s resurgence and lead, but the Rams were too efficient with the ball and managed to break through the press for easy buckets in the post.

Wood finished the game with a double-double on 33 points and 10 rebounds and was the only player in double figures for the Rams. Shayden Benson added 10 rebounds of his own in the win. The Eagles had three players in double figures and were led by Tyson Chow’s 13 points.

Parowan now advances to the 2A semifinals and will play Kanab Friday, Feb. 22 at 9:10 p.m. at the Dee Events Center in Ogden. The game can be viewed live on KSL.com.
