SALT LAKE CITY ā€” Freshman quarterback Jack Tuttle is transferring from the University of Utah, the university confirmed Thursday afternoon.

UteZone.com was the first to report Tuttleā€™s decision to transfer Wednesday night.

ā€œWe wish Jack the best and have no further information to add at this time,ā€ Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said in a statement.

Tuttle, a highly-touted four-star recruit from Mission Hills High School in San Marcos, California, was slated as the No. 3 backup behind incumbent quarterback Tyler Huntley and redshirt freshman Jason Shelley.

The freshman quarterback deleted all references to the University of Utah from his Instagram account Wednesday and started following several NCAA coaches on Twitter.

Tuttle entered fall camp as a favorite to at least win the No. 2 spot at quarterback behind Huntley. But after a strong showing from Shelley in fall camp, Utah coaches elected to redshirt Tuttle as a third-string quarterback.

Although never playing a down of football at Utah during the regular season, Tuttle remains the highest-targeted recruit in program history. Prior to joining the program, Tuttle committed early to Utah and never wavered in his decision, signing during the early signing period in December.

Tuttle is no longer participating with the team and will not be on the sidelines Saturday as Utah hosts USC in a vital South division matchup. Utah, though, will be hosting top quarterback recruit Jayden Daniels from Cajon High School in San Bernardino, California for an official visit this weekend.

Daniels is ranked the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the country, according to 247sports.com. His commitment to the program would certainly be a big boost to Utah post Huntley. In Tuttleā€™s absence, Utah has three scholarship quarterbacks on its roster: Huntley, Shelley and sophomore Drew Lisk.
