SALT LAKE CITY — Things are getting interesting in the Pac-12’s South division.

While Arizona State, Oregon State, Stanford and Washington State were on a bye, things have started to get heated in the South. USC gave Colorado its first loss of the season to take the division lead and Utah is in the mix after two-straight weeks of stellar performances in all aspects of the game.

Here’s a look at how the Pac-12 performed in Week 7.

Arizona (3-4, 2-2 Pac-12) at Utah (4-2, 2-2)

Score: Utah 42, Arizona 10

Game recap: The game started with Utah taking 7:13 to complete its first drive to score a touchdown. The Utes would score again on their second drive, setting the tone for the rest of the game. With less than two minutes into the second half, Utah led 35-0 and was on its way to back-to-back wins.

Key stat: Utah produced nearly 500 offensive yards and held Arizona to just 72 yards on the ground.

Conference implication: The Utes appear to have found their identity after scoring at least 40 points in the past two games. Utah’s offense has become unpredictable and impressive, matching the impression of the defense. Head coach Kyle Whittingham’s team is peaking midseason and is in good shape for the South, being behind USC and Colorado.

Arizona is struggling with an injured Khalil Tate. Backup quarterbacks couldn’t find success until the game’s last quarter. It’s a slippery slope for the Wildcats who are hoping to regroup after such a poor performance on all sides of the ball.

Next opponent: Utah hosts USC on Saturday. Arizona travels to UCLA on Saturday.

No. 19 Colorado (5-1, 2-1) at USC (4-2, 3-1)

Score: USC 31, Colorado 20

Game recap: After a scoreless first quarter, Colorado got on the board first with a 49-yard rushing touchdown. USC answered with three passing touchdowns to head into halftime. The Trojans ultimately sealed the win in the third quarter when they intercepted the Buffs on third-and-22 for a six-yard score.

Key stat: USC quarterback JT Daniels overcame two interceptions to finish 17-for-34 for 272 yards and three touchdowns.

Conference implication: USC is improving on both sides of the ball, but still needs to improve its ground game. The Trojans’ win against the Buffs put them in first place in the South. Their matchup against Utah next week will also help shape division standings.

Colorado came into the game hoping to be 6-0 for the first time since 1994. Instead, the Trojans exposed some of the Buffs’ weaknesses. The game may hurt Colorado when it comes down to who will win the division.

Next opponent: USC travels to Utah on Saturday. Colorado travels to Washington on Saturday.

UCLA (1-5, 1-2) at California (3-3, 0-3)

Score: UCLA 37, California 7

Game recap: UCLA led from the get-go, scoring on a five-yard rush late in the first quarter after recovering a California fumble. The Bears tried to get on the board before halftime but missed a 32-yard field goal. They came out of the locker room to score their only touchdown, leaving the Bruins to score 24 more points to win.

Key stat: UCLA’s defense had four of its five takeaways in the second half.

Conference implication: UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson was efficient and running back Joshua Kelley played well. This win was needed after five-straight losses to start the season. The Bruins are still on the bottom of the division, but they’re getting better every week.

California started the season 3-0 and has yet to win a conference game. There’s a lot of improvement needed for the Bears, who hope to get their first Pac-12 victory against Oregon State, also winless in the conference, on Saturday.

Next opponent: UCLA hosts Arizona on Saturday. California travels to Oregon State on Saturday.

No. 7 Washington (5-2, 3-1) at No. 17 Oregon (5-1, 2-1)

Score: Oregon 30, Washington 27 OT

Game recap: The game was close throughout and Washington had a chance to win with a 37-yard field goal. Oregon called two timeouts trying to ice the Huskies kicker. Peyton Henry kicked both times after the timeouts were called, making one of them. When it counted, Henry’s kick was wide right to take the game into overtime. The Huskies opened overtime settling for a field goal, but the Ducks responded with a touchdown to pull off the upset.

Key stat: Oregon rushed for 177 yards and ran 27 times in the second half and overtime.

Conference implication: Oregon knocked off its northern rival after two-consecutive years of losing to the Huskies. However, the Ducks might have ended the Pac-12’s hopes of having a team in the College Football Playoff.

For the first time this season, Washington’s defense allowed more than 24 points. The Huskies look better against the Ducks on paper, but the run defense couldn’t stop Oregon when it mattered most.

Next opponent: Oregon hosts Washington State on Saturday. Washington hosts Colorado on Saturday.
