SALT LAKE CITY — For most teams, this weekend was a final dress rehearsal before entering conference competition.

California, Colorado, Oregon, Stanford and Washington State remain undefeated, each with three wins before entering conference play. Arizona got its first win, leaving UCLA as the only remaining team left to win a game.

Here’s a look at how the Pac-12 performed in Week 3.

Arizona (1-2) vs Southern Utah (0-3)

Score: Arizona 62, Southern Utah 31

Game recap: The game was tied at 17 toward the end of the first half. Quarterback Khalil Tate rallied the Wildcats to score 31 unanswered points to separate themselves for the win.

Key stat: Tate finished 13 for 20 for a career-best 349 yards and five touchdowns.

Conference implication: Even though the Wildcats’ first win came against an FCS team, a win is a win. With a hurt ankle, Tate’s mobility was limited yet he showed that he has a strong arm and can pass. How that game plan holds up in conference play will soon be known as we get deeper into the season.

Next opponent: Arizona travels to Oregon State on Saturday.

No. 23 Arizona State (2-1) at San Diego State (2-1)

Score: San Diego State 28, Arizona State 21

Game recap: To finish a rally from a 14-point deficit in the final minutes, Arizona State quarterback Manny Wilkins appeared to complete a 48-yard pass to San Diego State’s 2-yard line with 6 seconds left in the game. The Aztecs got called for targeting on the play. After review, the targeting call was upheld, but the officials also determined that the pass was incomplete. With one more try, San Diego State swiped away the ball in the end zone to secure the win.

Key stat: Entering the game as the nation’s best rushing defense, the Sun Devils allowed 311 yards.

Conference implication: The Sun Devils need to get back to stopping the run, especially as they prepare to meet Washington and Myles Gaskin next week.

Next opponent: Arizona State travels to Washington on Saturday.

California (3-0) vs Idaho State (1-1)

Score: California 45, Idaho State 23

Game recap: It took a few drives to get California going on offense, but an interception by the defense was just what the Bears needed to start a 28-3 first half run. The Bengals scored on an 11-yard run, but the kick was blocked. California cranked out 17 more points to seal the win.

Key stat: Quarterback Chase Garbers completed 20 of 25 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns.

Conference implication: The Bears have allowed just two field goals in the first half of their first three games. The defense will need to continue applying pressure to opponents as conference competition starts.

Next opponent: California enters its bye week before hosting Oregon on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Colorado (3-0) vs New Hampshire (0-3)

Score: Colorado 45, New Hampshire 14

Game recap: Colorado’s offense put 28 points on the board in the first half while the defense shut out New Hampshire. The Wildcats couldn’t overcome the deficit and was only able to find the end zone in the third quarter.

Key stat: The Buffs allowed just 42 rushing yards.

Conference implication: Colorado has played well throughout its non-conference schedule and will begin conference play with plenty of confidence next week.

Next opponent: Colorado enters its bye week, then hosts UCLA on Friday, Sept. 28.

No. 20 Oregon (3-0) vs San Jose State (0-3)

Score: Oregon 35, San Jose State 22

Game recap: Oregon got things going early with two touchdowns in the first quarter. By halftime, the Ducks led 21-6. The Ducks found the end zone two more times in the game’s latter half with a 1-yard run and 22-yard pass before the Spartans closed the game with 10 points.

Key stat: The Ducks allowed just 29 rushing yards.

Conference implication: The Ducks are looking good as they gear up for conference play next week in a game that’s sure to count toward deciding the North.

Next opponent: Oregon hosts Stanford on Friday.

Oregon State (1-2) at Nevada (2-1)

Score: Nevada 37, Oregon State 35

Game recap: Nevada scored on its first four possessions and recovered a fumble to lead 30-7 with 10 minutes left in the second quarter. Oregon State replaced quarterback Conor Blount with Jake Luton who led the Beavers to outscore the Wolf Pack 28-7. The Beavers tried for a 33-yard field goal with four seconds left to complete the comeback but missed it wide left to lose.

Key stat: Receiver Isaiah Hodgins caught a career-high 14 receptions for 200 yards and two touchdowns.

Conference implication: The Beavers came so close to breaking their losing streak on the road, which now lies at 21 games. This game shows promise and Oregon State needed that before starting the conference part of its schedule.

Next opponent: Oregon State hosts Arizona on Saturday.

No. 9 Stanford (3-0, 1-0 Pac-12) vs UC Davis (2-1)

Score: Stanford 30, UC Davis 10

Game recap: Stanford started its day with a punt on the first drive, followed by quarterback K.J. Costello throwing an interception. The Cardinal finally got to controlling the game, scoring 17 points in the second quarter to have a 14-point lead at halftime. They’d score three more times in the game before giving up a touchdown as time expired.

Key stat: The Cardinal ran just 60 yards in the first half and finished with 137.

Conference implication: The unusual early start time of 11 a.m. local time and playing without star running back Bryce Love, who took the week off to rest and recover before the schedule gets tougher may have been a reason the Cardinal started slow.

Next opponent: Stanford travels to Oregon on Saturday.

UCLA (0-3) vs Fresno State (2-1)

Score: Fresno State 38, UCLA 14

Game recap: Fresno State score on its first three drives to jump ahead of UCLA 16-0. The Bruins got within two, scoring a pair of touchdowns, but the Bulldogs scored three-straight touchdowns in the second half to put the game away.

Key stat: The Bruins were flagged 11 times for 96 yards.

Conference implication: The Bruins, though young, need to play disciplined football. They have a week of rest to go back to basics before playing a division rival.

Next opponent: UCLA enters its bye week before traveling to Colorado Friday, Sept. 28.

Utah (2-1, 0-1) vs No. 10 Washington (2-1, 1-0)

Score: Washington 21, Utah 7

Game recap: Washington scored on its opening drive with help from a 38-yard gain by running back Myles Gaskin. Utah responded with a touchdown of its own before the end of the first quarter to tie the score. The Huskies answered back with another touchdown and the Utes couldn’t cut their lead thanks to drive killers — fumbles, dropped passes, etc. Utah couldn’t take advantage of two fourth quarter drives starting inside Washington’s 30-yard line, instead turning it over and giving Washington the win.

Key stat: The Huskies won the turnover battle 3-0.

Conference implication: The Huskies defense showed they’re one of the best in the league. They stopped the Utes from two late drives that could’ve potentially tied the game.

Utah’s offense is nowhere near what the team and fans hoped it would be. A bye comes at a much-needed time as the Utes need to go back to basics and refresh before continuing conference games.

Next opponent: Washington hosts Arizona State on Saturday. Utah enters its bye week before traveling to Washington State on Saturday, Sept. 29.

No. 22 USC (1-2, 0-1) at Texas (2-1)

Score: Texas 37, USC 14

Game recap: USC’s only touchdowns came in the first quarter. Texas came out strong, shutting down quarterback JT Daniels and blocked a 50-yard field goal for a score as the Longhorns put together 34 unanswered points to win big.

Key stat: The Trojans finished with -5 rushing yards.

Conference implication: It’s time for the Trojans to regroup. They were able to find the end zone this week, an improvement from the last, but personal fouls hurt and short punts kept Texas scoring drives alive.

Next opponent: USC hosts Washington State on Friday.

Washington State (3-0) vs Eastern Washington (2-1)

Score: Washington State 59, Eastern Washington 24

Game recap: The score doesn’t seem like it, but this game was close through three quarters. Up 35-24 to start the fourth, Washington State put its foot on the gas and put 24 points on the board. Once the Cougars were up 45-24, the Eagles didn’t have a chance cause a threat.

Key stat: Quarterback Gardner Minshew completed 45 of 57 passes and threw for 470 yards and two touchdowns.

Conference implication: The Cougars played a complete game and it couldn’t have come at a better time. They start playing conference opponents next week.

Next opponent: Washington State travels to USC on Friday.
