EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Evan Gilyard scored 22 points and UTEP never trailed in its 73-44 win over Southern Miss on Saturday night.

Omega Harris had 18 points and Isiah Osborne added 15 with eight rebounds for UTEP (10-18, 5-11 Conference USA).

Southern Miss (13-17, 6-11) made just 5 of 31 (16.1 percent) from the field, including 1 of 15 from 3-point range, and trailed 38-15 at the break. Harris converted a 3-point play to make it 5-0 and Kobe Magee hit a 3 that pushed the lead to 10 points with nearly seven minutes left in the first half. Tyree Griffin made a jumper on Southern Miss' next possession, but Osborne answered with a 3 that sparked an 18-3 run — including 10 points by Gilyard — to close the half.

Griffin led the Golden Eagles with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting. The rest of the Southern Miss players made just 8 of 42 (19 percent) from the field.
