Texas Southern rolls to 106-71 win over Alabama A&M

HOUSTON (AP) — Derrick Bruce scored a career-best 35 points on nine 3-pointers and Texas Southern rolled to a 106-71 win over Alabama A&M on Saturday night.

Bruce was 13 of 19 from the field overall for the Tigers (9-19, 9-6 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Demontrae Jefferson added 28 points with 10 assists and Cainan McClelland had 10. Marquis Salmon led the team with 10 rebounds in addition to his six points.

TSU shot 62 percent from the field compared to 50 percent for Alabama A&M and had a 31-24 rebounding edge.

The Tigers led 50-40 at the break. Alabama A&M cut it to 58-50 early in the second half but TSU took off on a 27-8 run after that, to go up 85-58 on a Bruce 3-pointer with 7:23 left. The Tigers rolled to the win from there.

Andre Kennedy scored 22 points for the Bulldogs (2-26, 2-13).
