JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Asante Gist and Isaac McGlone combined to score 44 points and Eastern Kentucky held off Jacksonville down the stretch to preserve an 80-76 victory Wednesday night.
Cody Helgeland got to the basket for a layup with 41 seconds left to get the Dophins within two, 78-76, but Gist made it a two-score game with a pair of free throws with six seconds left.
Jacksonville held a 37-32 lead at intermission, but the Colonels rallied in the second half. Marlon Adams brought Eastern Kentucky even at 48-48 with a 3-point play with 13:40 left in the game.
McGlone was fouled behind the arc and knocked down all three free throws to give Eastern Kentucky a 70-66 lead.
Gist finished with 24 points and McGlone 20 as Eastern Kentucky (5-4) shot 55.1 percent (27 of 49) from the field, including 5 of 13 from deep.
Darien Fernandez led Jacksonville (6-3) with 19 points.
