LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Third-ranked Kansas and Kansas State ended their bitter showdown with a wild melee behind the basket that included punches, shoving and at least one player picking up a stool. The brawl started moments after the Jayhawks tried to dribble out the time on their 81-60 victory. Silvio De Sousa was stripped by the Wildcats' DaJuan Gordon near mid-court and Gordon tried to go in for a layup. The Jayhawks' big man recovered and blocked his shot, sending Gordon to the floor, then stood over him barking. That triggered benches to empty and punches to be thrown.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Desmond Bane scored 27 points, Kevin Samuel had 11 points and 11 rebounds and TCU upended No. 18 Texas Tech 65-54. The Horned Frogs pushed ahead to stay with a 13-2 run to start the second half. Bane had seven of those points, including one of his six 3-pointers in the game. TCU had never beaten Texas Tech when the Red Raiders were ranked. TCU was coming off two conference losses on the road last week by at least 20 points. Jahmi'us Ramsey had 15 points for Texas Tech.
AMES, Iowa (AP) — Solomon Young scored a career-high 27 points off the bench, Rasir Bolton added 21 points and nine rebounds and Iowa State beat Oklahoma State 89-82. Young, a 6-foot-8 senior who started the first 14 games of the season, gave the Cyclones a much-needed energy boost and also grabbed nine rebounds as the Cowboys remained winless in conference play. The Cyclones, who made of 11 of 24 3-point attempts, led 75-60 with five minutes left and held off a late Cowboys’ charge by hitting four straight free throws in the closing moments. Lindy Waters led Oklahoma State with 14 points.
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Quarterback Jalen Hurts is trying to prove himself as a legitimate NFL prospect after leading two elite college programs. The Oklahoma and one-time Alabama star is auditioning for scouts, executives and coaches at the Senior Bowl all week. It's a trip back to Crimson Tide country. He led both programs into the College Football Playoff and was the Heisman Trophy runner-up in his one season with Lincoln Riley's Sooners. Hurts says his biggest selling point is simple: He wins.
WACO, Texas (AP) — New Baylor football coach Dave Aranda has hired one of his mentors as the new defensive coordinator of the Bears. Ron Roberts comes to Baylor after two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Louisiana-Lafayette. The Ragin' Cajuns allowed only 19.7 points a game last season, about the same as Baylor. Arnada was co-defensive coordinator at Delta State in 2007, when Roberts was the head coach of the Division II school in Mississippi. Aranda was defensive coordinator the past four seasons as national champion LSU. He says many of the defensive concepts he has used were learned from Roberts.
UNDATED (AP) — Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Ohio State defensive end Chase Young and Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor are among 99 juniors granted eligibility by the NFL into the draft. The NFL on Tuesday released the official list of 120 players who gave up college eligibility to enter the draft. Most previously made their intentions public. Among that 120 are 16 players who notified the NFL they had completed college degree requirements and were therefore eligible to be selected in the April 23-25 draft in Las Vegas. The total of 120 players who left behind college eligibility to enter the draft is down from the record 132 last season. The 99 juniors granted early entry by the league is also down from 103 last year.
UNDATED (AP) — San Diego State is the lone unbeaten left in the nation, and the fourth-ranked Aztecs will try to keep it that way with games against Wyoming and UNLV this week. Elsewhere, the Big 12-SEC Challenge takes center stage next weekend with No. 15 Kentucky visiting No. 18 Texas Tech and top-ranked Baylor facing Florida. Seventh-ranked Dayton also has a pair of tough Atlantic-10 games this week against St. Bonaventure and Richmond, while Indiana can prove itself with back-to-back games against No. 11 Michigan State and No. 17 Maryland.
