ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Lessons learned at home have propelled J.R. Reed to a leading role in Georgia's secondary. The fifth-year senior has started 32 consecutive games at safety for the No. 3 Bulldogs, who face a huge challenge this weekend when they host No. 7 Notre Dame. Reed is the son of former NFL receiver Jake Reed, who played in the league for a dozen seasons with Minnesota and New Orleans.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond can relate to the emotions Auburn's Bo Nix must be feeling heading into the Aggies-Tigers showdown this weekend. Mond was once the youthful starter leading his team into a big SEC road game. Nix, a freshman, will take center stage for the No. 8 Tigers. It's a little more at stake than when he was an eighth-grader with three or four starts under his belt starting a playoff game against eventual state champion Clay-Chalkville.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee has used three different starting offensive lines in as many games as the Volunteers try to find an effective combination. That unsettled unit faces the team that leads all Football Bowl Subdivision programs in sacks when Tennessee opens Southeastern Conference competition Saturday at No. 9 Florida. The Gators have recorded 16 sacks through their first three games.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina players have been focused this week and practiced with a sense of desperation as they try to turn around a disappointing start to the football season for them. Losing two of their first three games was not anything close to what they expected. Now the Gamecocks face a crucial two-game stretch against Missouri and Kentucky .

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Former five-star recruit Jerrion Ealy is making an immediate impact for Mississippi's football program. Ealy set an Ole Miss freshman single-game record with 273 all-purpose yards in a 40-29 victory over Southeastern Louisiana. He rushed for 101 yards on just nine carries and also scored on a 94-yard kickoff return.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vanderbilt will be without a trio of Commodores for the rest of the season because of injuries. Coach Derek Mason says that backup running back Jamauri Wakefield, linebacker Colin Anderson and wide receiver Amir Abdur-Rahman are all out. The injuries obviously hurt Vanderbilt's depth as the Commodores hosts No. 4 LSU on Saturday. Wakefield was carted off the field late in Vanderbilt's loss to No. 3 Georgia with a leg injury in the season opener.
