SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse's 2019 football media guide has eliminated the name Carrier from references to the university's domed stadium, shortening it to simply The Dome. Carrier contributed $2.75 million of the construction costs in 1979 in exchange for naming rights. The company says it will be contacting the university to discuss the matter.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — The Wake Forest women's volleyball coach named in a scheme to help get wealthy children into elite schools has resigned. The school has announced the resignation of William Ferguson. He says in a statement "it's essential that I step aside" so the program can move forward while he focuses on the case. Prosecutors allege a college counseling business directed money to the program and a camp controlled by Ferguson in exchange for help getting a student admitted. Ferguson has pleaded not guilty.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse is ranked in preseason for the first time in more than two decades and coach Dino Babers is counting on his defense to keep the No. 22 Orange moving forward. Syracuse returns eight starters on a unit that registered 31 turnovers last season.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida's Dan Mullen and Miami's Manny Diaz first crossed paths a decade ago in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It was nothing like the stage the coaches will share when No. 8 Florida and rival Miami usher in the college football season Saturday night in Orlando. But that otherwise forgetful game in the middle of the Volunteer State in 2009 sparked a lasting friendship that helped propel them to where they are today.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina coach Mack Brown is savoring his return to coaching in a second stint with the Tar Heels. Brown had worked in broadcasting since his departure from Texas after the 2013 season. But he says the time away rejuvenated him for his chance to return to the sideline. Now he's trying to stabilize a UNC program that has won two Atlantic Coast Conference games over the past two seasons. Brown guided the North Carolina football into top-10 national status more than two decades ago.
