OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Jimmy Kerr homered for the third time in the College World Series, and Michigan beat Vanderbilt 7-4 in Game 1 of the best-of-three finals. The Wolverines, who barely got into the NCAA Tournament after a poor finish to the regular season, are seeking the school's first baseball championship since 1962. Ohio State is the last Big Ten school to take home the title, winning it all in 1966.

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Defending national champion Baylor will host Georgia on Dec. 4 as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge women's basketball event. The Big 12 and Southeastern Conference have played an annual challenge event since 2014. The two conferences have split the 10 matchups each of the last two seasons.

ATLANTA (AP) — Longtime Associated Press sports writer Ed Shearer has died at 82. Shearer worked at the AP for more than 40 years, covering the Olympics, Super Bowl, World Series and Hank Aaron's 715th homer. But he left his most lasting mark as the "SEC Seer," a prognosticator of Southern football known throughout the nation.
