MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Four scholarship quarterbacks are competing for the starter's job at Wisconsin. When it comes to competing for fans' attention, freshman Graham Mertz is the easy winner. Sophomore Danny Vanden Boom says Mertz has created a buzz this spring because he is so physically gifted. Junior Jack Coan is the only quarterback with significant experience following the departure of three-year starter Alex Hornibrook. Coan started the last four games, leading the Badgers to a Pinstripe Bowl win.

UNDATED (AP) — Seven of the 14 Big Ten teams are coming out of spring practices planning to continue quarterback auditions in August. Incumbents Peyton Ramsey at Indiana and Arthur Sitkowski at Rutgers are facing challenges. Northwestern must replace four-year starter Clayton Thorson and Clemson backup Hunter Johnson is expected to have the inside track. Any question about Georgia transfer Justin Fields being the starter at Ohio State was answered when Matthew Baldwin announced he would transfer.

UNDATED (AP) — Tennessee's pitching has the Volunteers in position to end the Southeastern Conference's longest NCAA Tournament drought. The Vols have allowed two runs or less in seven of their last eight games. Garrett Stallings is 7-2 with a 1.82 ERA after going 5-5 with a 4.58 ERA last year. The Vols have won 30 games and are .500 in SEC play after losing six of their first nine conference games.
