NEW YORK (AP) — Reliever Adam Warren has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right back strain by the New York Yankees.
The Yankees announced the move before Saturday's 9-1 win over Toronto. Right-hander Jonathan Holder from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his place, and he pitched two perfect innings to close out the win.
Warren became the 11th Yankees player to go on the disabled list this season, seven shy of last year's total. Just two of the players have been activated after going on the DL, outfielder Aaron Hicks and left-hander CC Sabathia.
Warren allowed one earned run in 2 2/3 innings in Friday's 8-5 loss to the Blue Jays. It was his longest outing since pitching 2 2/3 innings versus Baltimore on April 29, 2017. His 46 pitches thrown were also the most he's thrown since July 9, 2016 at Pittsburgh.
"It was more just discomfort than pain. I felt like I could pitch through it, I had been pitching through it. I was just a little more concerned that I might be doing more damage," Warren said.
Warren's right ankle was bruised during New York's season-opening series in Toronto when he was hit by a comebacker off the bat of Aledmys Diaz.
