WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Nationals did not tender a contract to outfielder Ben Revere before Friday's deadline, making him a free agent.

The Nationals announced Friday that Revere was their only arbitration-eligible player who wasn't offered a contract. Shortstop Danny Espinosa, outfielder Bryce Harper, third baseman Anthony Rendon and right-handed pitcher Tanner Roark were tendered contracts, as expected.

Revere was eligible for arbitration and would've cost Washington over $6 million through that process in 2017 after hitting .217 last season. Acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays for former closer Drew Storen, Revere was replaced as the everyday center fielder by rookie Trea Turner and wasn't on the Nationals' playoff roster.

The 28-year-old Revere is a career .285 hitter in parts of seven seasons with the Twins, Phillies, Blue Jays and Nationals.
