ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — President Donald Trump has kicked off his reelection campaign with a grievance-filled rally that focused more on settling scores than on laying out his second-term agenda. On Tuesday in Florida, Trump painted a disturbing picture of what life would look like if he loses in 2020, telling voters that Democrats "want to destroy you and they want to destroy our country." The apocalyptic language and finger-pointing made clear that Trump's 2020 campaign will probably look a lot like his 2016 run.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The hometown paper of the Florida city where Donald Trump is making his reelection announcement says it won't endorse the president. The Orlando Sentinel said in an editorial Tuesday that some readers may wonder how the publication can eliminate a candidate before anyone knows who his opponent will be. The Sentinel says it's "because there's no point pretending we would ever recommend that readers vote for Trump." The chair of the local Republican Party didn't return a call seeking comment.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan is citing a "painful" family situation as he steps down from the position. President Donald Trump announced Shanahan's departure in a tweet, and said Army Secretary Mark Esper would be the new acting Pentagon chief. Shanahan's withdrawal from one of the most critical roles in the government comes at a time of escalating tensions in the Middle East.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — U.S. authorities say they have seized more than $1 billion worth of cocaine from a ship at Philadelphia's port, calling it one of the largest drug busts in American history. The U.S. attorney's office in Philadelphia announced the massive bust on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon. Officials said agents seized about 33,000 pounds of cocaine from a large ship at the Packer Marine Terminal. Authorities say two members of the ship's crew have been arrested and charged.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Chinese President Xi Jinping says North Korea is taking the "right direction" by politically resolving issues on the peninsula in a rare column published in North Korea's state newspaper. Xi didn't mention the stalled nuclear weapons talks between Washington and Pyongyang. He said his visit to North Korea on Thursday and Friday would "strengthen strategic communication and exchange" between the traditional allies.
