NEW YORK (AP) — The National Enquirer's parent company will not face prosecution over its efforts to suppress an embarrassing story about Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign. The U.S. attorney's office in New York made a deal with the parent company, AMI, in which the company will be required to cooperate with federal prosecutors in any investigation. The agreement was announced Wednesday shortly after former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison.
LONDON (AP) — Prime Minister Theresa May says she is "grateful" for the support she received from Conservative Party lawmakers who voted to keep her as their leader. The prime minister acknowledged Wednesday after she survived a party confidence vote with a 200-117 tally that a substantial number of Conservatives voted against her.
STRASBOURG, France (AP) — France has raised its three-stage threat index to the highest level and bolstered troops around France following a shooting attack Tuesday night at a famous Christmas market in the city of Strasbourg in eastern France. Hundreds of security forces are searching for a man who shouted "God is great!" in Arabic and sprayed the market with gunfire, killing two people and leaving one brain-dead. The 29-year-old suspect has been in trouble with the law since age 10 remains at large.
TORONTO (AP) — An official familiar with the matter says the Canadian man missing in China and feared detained is entrepreneur Michael Spavor. The official spoke Wednesday night on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. China has already detained a former Canadian diplomat in what appears to be retaliation for Canada's arrest of Meng Wanzhou, the chief financial officer of telecommunications giant Huawei.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro says he is forming a presidential exploratory committee as he considers a Democratic bid for the White House in 2020. The move Wednesday gives the 44-year-old former San Antonio mayor an early start to what's shaping up as a crowded Democratic field without a clear front-runner to challenge President Donald Trump. Maryland Rep. John Delaney is the only declared 2020 Democratic presidential candidate so far.
