WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI is confirming that two additional suspicious packages, addressed to Rep. Maxine Waters, have been intercepted that are similar in appearance to five others that were received. The FBI updated its tally in a tweet Wednesday night. It came as federal authorities said a package addressed to Waters with similar markings and characteristics to the other devices was intercepted at a Los Angeles mail facility.

NEW YORK (AP) — The discovery of pipe bombs targeting prominent Democratic politicians and CNN is raising the threat of election-season violence largely unknown in the U.S. _ and prompting uncomfortable questions about the consequences of politicians' increasingly vitriolic rhetoric. Coming two weeks before midterms elections, the thwarted attacks caused renewed soul-searching about whether President Donald Trump has fanned passions to dangerous levels.

MOSINEE, Wis. (AP) — President Donald Trump has skipped some of his usual attack lines at a campaign rally in Wisconsin. While he certainly wasn't tame Wednesday night as he addressed a crowd of thousands, he declined to go after his potential 2020 rivals, including former Vice President Joe Biden. Trump sometimes likes to talk about how he would beat Biden in a fistfight. Trump also refrained from mentioning his 2016 rival, Hillary Clinton, and Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters, two of his most frequent punching bags.

NEW YORK (AP) — Markets in Asia are moderately lower after another torrent of selling gripped Wall Street overnight. Japan's Nikkei 225 index lost 3 percent in early trading, while the Shanghai Composite index sank 1.9 percent. The losses followed a rout in U.S. markets that erased gains for the year for both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 index.

BOSTON (AP) — David Price pitched six innings of three-hit ball, and major league RBI leader J.D. Martinez broke a fifth-inning tie in another two-out rally that led the Boston Red Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers for a 2-0 lead in the World Series. Craig Kimbrel closed out the win at noisy Fenway Park, putting the Red Sox halfway to their fourth championship in 15 seasons.
