BERLIN (AP) — German police say they have conducted extensive interviews with witnesses who saw a 17-year-old migrant throw himself from an apartment block, and none were able to confirm initial reports that he had been encouraged to jump.
The Somali teenager, who had just returned from a psychiatric clinic, suffered fatal injuries in the fall Friday in the eastern town of Schmoelln.
Thuringia state police said Monday that those interviewed included first responders, staff at the migrant home where he lived and others.
Schmoelln's mayor, Sven Schrade, said Saturday he'd heard accounts of people shouting "Go on, jump." He later described the accounts as "unconfirmed."
Police say they are investigating separately whether to bring criminal charges over social media posts that appeared to celebrate the asylum seeker's death.
