VIENNA (AP) — An Austrian court has found a man guilty on multiple murder and attempted murder counts and sentenced him to life in prison for plowing his car through a crowd of pedestrians, killing three and injuring dozens.

The man, identified only as Alen R. in keeping with Austrian anonymity laws, drove his SUV at high speed last summer into a pedestrian zone in the southern city of Graz. He was convicted of three instances of murder and 81 attempted murder counts.

In reaching a verdict Thursday, a jury rejected defense arguments that due to his abnormal state of mind at the time of the deed he wasn't criminally liable. The 27-year-old said he couldn't remember committing the act.

Two adults and a 4-year old boy were killed.
