A transient has been arrested on suspicion of robbing five banks and credit unions around Salt Lake City since early February. Michael Bacon was arrested Friday for investigation of robbery after police said he led officers on a foot chase in the city. The 45-year-old Bacon is accused of robbing branches of U.S. Bank and Chase Bank within 45 minutes of each other last week.

A judge has found no proof two rail companies tampered with evidence after a tractor-trailer and an Amtrak train collided in 2011, killing six people and injuring dozens in northern Nevada. The ruling handed down late Thursday denied a motion for sanctions against Amtrak and Union Pacific Railroad. Lawyers for John Davis Trucking Co. claimed the rail companies tampered with a gate-crossing arm and a video to make it appear its driver was to blame.
