FORT VALLEY, Ga. (AP) — A second person has been arrested in connection with the killing of a university student in central Georgia.
Jaivon Abron, 22, of Valdosta, was arrested Wednesday and charged with concealing a death and making two false statements to police, news outlets reported.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Todd Crosby said Abron is a friend of DeMarcus Little, 23, who is accused of slaying his girlfriend, Anitra Gunn, 23.
Crosby declined to say whether Abron was involved in the homicide but said Abron knew Gunn and was also her friend.
Gunn was an agriculture student at Fort Valley State University. She disappeared on Valentine's Day and her remains were found two days later in Crawford County, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) south of Atlanta, according to investigators. Little's arrest warrant said Gunn was strangled.
Little is a U.S. Army sergeant stationed at Fort Gordon. He was charged with malice murder on Feb. 21 after previously being arraigned on charges of criminal damage to property. Police previously said Little was accused of smashing the windows in Gunn's home and slashing her car tires on Feb. 5.
A motive for the killing was not immediately released. Crosby said a cellphone was found before the announcement of Abron's arrest but declined to specify the significance of the discovery or where it was found.
Little’s lawyer, Benjamin Davis, denied the charges during a hearing on Monday. It's unclear whether Abron had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
