POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — The American Association of University Professors has lifted a sanction at Idaho State University, indicating that the organization no longer disapproves of how the school is handling governance issues.
The Idaho State Journal reports the organization, which promotes academic freedom and shared governance at U.S. universities, issued the sanction more than eight years ago after getting complaints about turmoil between faculty and then-ISU President Arthur Vailas. The turmoil culminated with the State Board of Education suspending the operation and bylaws of the ISU Faculty Senate.
But the university implemented a new constitution in December, and the school has a new president, Kevin Satterlee.
He said in a press release that administrators and faculty are working together to build a positive and productive relationship based on the tenants of shared governance.
