OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Police say they've made an arrest in the death of a man found shot near an Ogden pond.

The Standard-Examiner reports 35-year-old Cory Michael Fitzwater was arrested Friday on suspicion of murder.

Police say Fitzwater was arrested after police stopped a car he was riding in early Thursday morning and found drugs and a gun.

Officers found the body about an hour later near the 21st Street Pond. Jail documents say they also found a bullet casing matching the gun from the car.

Police say the driver told investigators he witnessed the shooting. No attorney was immediately listed for Fitzwater.

Capt. Danielle Croyle says the slain man was in his late 20s or early 30s.

This story corrects that the body was found near the pond, not in the pond.
