ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — Authorities say a second person has died following an April 11 gunfight with sheriff's deputies in rural north Louisiana.

Louisiana State Police said in a Saturday news release that 50-year-old Kendall Lemoine died Friday night at a trauma center in Alexandria.

State police said deputies in Winn Parish had gone to a residence to serve an arrest warrant on Lemoine when they were met by him and 71-year-old Betty Lemoine.

North Louisiana media have identified the woman as Kendall Lemoine's mother.

State police said the Lemoines were armed and they exchanged fire with deputies. Betty Lemoine died at the scene.

State police are often asked to investigate shootings by local law enforcement. Trooper Scott Moreau said the investigation is continuing and that no other details were being released.
