A Texas prosecutor says an imprisoned former nurse convicted in 1984 of killing a toddler and facing a new murder charge in the 1981 death of an infant may have killed up to 60 young children around that time.
Bexar (bayr) County District Attorney Nico LaHood said at a news conference Friday that investigators believe Genene Jones may have killed some or all of those children because they died under unusual circumstances during or just after her shifts.
Jones worked at pediatric facilities in San Antonio and elsewhere in Texas in the 1980s.
Her case has been chronicled in two books, an NBC-TV movie and numerous articles.
Jones was convicted of murder in 1984 in the death of a 15-month-old who was given a fatal injection.
She was charged with murder on Thursday in the 1981 death of an 11-month-old. LaHood said new evidence contributed to prosecutors bringing the latest charge against her.

The Bexar (bayr) County district attorney's office said in a statement that investigators believe Genene Jones killed dozens of young children at Texas pediatric clinics in the 1980s.
District Attorney Nico LaHood is expected to discuss the allegations in further detail during a news conference Friday.
