FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Authorities have released an emergency call in which a man says he killed his girlfriend and expresses remorse.
Interim Fayetteville Police Chief Anthony Kelly says 31-year-old Mark Anthony Hicks stabbed the woman to death before lunging at officers who fatally shot him.
Before the encounter Wednesday, Hicks is heard telling a 911 dispatcher that he "just killed somebody" and he says "I'm so sorry."
The Fayetteville Observer posted a recording of the call.
Two boys escaped the house unharmed, and one also called 911.
Both Hicks and the woman he stabbed, Amanda Williams, were black. Two white officers and an officer of Asian descent have been put on administrative duty. It's not clear yet who fired the fatal shot.
