Thousands of absent students on day of Broncos parade

DENVER (AP) — More than a quarter of students enrolled at Denver and Jeffco schools were reported to have missed classes when the city celebrated the Denver Broncos' Super Bowl parade.

The Denver Post reports (http://dpo.st/20rQRwx ) that Denver Public Schools released figures Wednesday showing that more than 24,100 students had an absence from one or more class periods on Tuesday, when the event was held. That is about 26 percent of students enrolled in Denver schools.

Denver schools also saw smaller class sizes on the day after the Super Bowl. About 14,900 students were absent Monday.

Jeffco schools reported a quarter of the district's enrollment, or about 21,900 students, absent from at least one class on Tuesday.
