SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials did not file charges against a Utah security guard who fired a gunshot into the ceiling at a driver's license office last summer.
KUTV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1nVDMzi ) that surveillance video shows 34-year-old security guard Dmitry Novik escorting an upset man out of the West Valley City office.
The video shows the men fighting on the floor before Novik's gun fired into the ceiling.
Novik worked for Citadel-Chapman Security, a private contractor from Colorado. Company officials say Novik was suspended and later resigned.
West Valley City Police detectives asked the Salt Lake County District Attorney's office to file charges against Novik. The office declined, saying they did not believe a jury would convict him.
Novik's attorney Lorenzo Miller says he is an outstanding security guard with a solid record.
