BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A group of travelers with developmental disabilities is setting out on a cross-country road trip that organizers say will help them develop life skills and better their chances of one day living and working independently.
The experimental 6,000-mile trip is organized by People Inc. of Buffalo. The four travelers are members of the organization's "Guys Group" and have autism or other developmental disabilities. Accompanied by two staff members, they'll be gone from Saturday through June 15, traveling by RV to places like the Grand Canyon and Hollywood.
People Inc. says the trip will give participants the chance to learn how to plan and budget, and instill safety and social skills.
Along the way, the group plans to visit other agencies that serve those with developmental disabilities.
