BEAVER, Utah (AP) — A private attorney hired by Beaver County says a lawsuit filed against the sheriff lacks merit and he's confident it'll be dismissed.
Lawyer Peter Stirba says there's much more to the story than portrayed in former deputy Cody Allen's lawsuit filed last week against Sheriff Cameron Noel and the county.
Allen says he was fired last November for reporting that his boss choked a suspect at a crime scene.
Stirba told KUTV-TV of Salt Lake City (http://bit.ly/1ITnvmN ) that Allen was drunk at a party and assaulted someone a month before he was fired. He says Allen also left his gun belt outside the jail gym that same night.
Allen's attorney, Craig Pankratz, says other officers have "engaged in much more egregious conduct" than that and didn't get fired.
